Synopsis

Using the metaphor of a doctor listening to an ailing patient’s beating heart, visual artist Souad Douibi takes us through the streets of Algiers for a “check-up” on its inhabitants. A totally immersive sound experience, ‘Mkawda’ captures the zeitgeist of a city in pain. One that is sick of corruption, forced migration and economic mismanagement. But the hope of the people is evident in their words and proof that maybe time can heal all wounds.

About the Directors

Souad Douibi is a visual artist, performer, and art therapy teacher. She graduated from the Higher School of Fine Arts of Algiers in 2008. Douibi exhibited regularly as a painter, photographer and videographer in Algeria and Europe between 2005 and 2011. After a break from the art world that lasted two years, she returned to the stage as a performer engaged in the streets of Algiers, but also an artist who is involved in social change through cultural and artistic activities.
