The Doha Tribeca Film Festival is the culmination of our year-round activities and a celebration of film, education and community. The festival is a cultural partnership – based on the mutual exchange of knowledge, support and relationships - between the Doha Film Institute and New York’s Tribeca Film Festival.
DTFF’s leadership includes H.E. Sheikh Mohammed Bin Fahad Al-Thani, H.E. Dr. Hassan Ali Hussein Al-Nimah, Executive Director Amanda Palmer and the co-founders of Tribeca Film Festival, Robert DeNiro, Jane Rosenthal, and Craig Hatkoff.
Launched in 2009, DTFF is a truly international festival, organized by a Doha-based team of more than 22 nationalities and 200 staff, which includes a core of Qatari nationals. DTFF’s aim is to promote Middle Eastern filmmakers by showcasing their films alongside the world’s best, on an international platform.
DTFF’s first year was a resounding success. We brought a slate of 30 feature films to Doha, highlighting acclaimed Arab films plus the best of Hollywood, Bollywood, family films, documentaries, animation and world cinema. Our opening-night outdoor screening of Mira Nair’s Amelia premiered to an audience of 5000 people, our industry panels were fully attended, and our two Audience Awards saw the community voting for their favourite films in our first year’s competition.
This year, DTFF expands its festival length and competition. Now spanning five days, the festival will take place from October 26-30 at its new hub, the Cultural Village in Doha. The competition will now also include two jury awards.
