Synopsis

A bitter-sweet homage to the animator's eponymous late father. This well-crafted and endearing labour of love follows his father’s story from humble beginnings in rural China to academic and professional achievement, before emigrating to America and becoming a parent, and finally to tragically the cancer diagnosis that would ultimately claim his life. Perseverance is a consistent element throughout the short film, a theme that would play out both onscreen and behind the camera.

About the Director

Perry Chen made 'Changyou's Journey' at 17, before senior year at his San Diego high school. The film qualified for a 2018 Best Animated Short Film Oscar, making Chen the youngest animation director to qualify for an Academy Award. At 11, Chen was the sole animator for the critically acclaimed six-minute animated short 'Ingrid Pitt: Beyond the Forest', which qualified for an Oscar and won awards at the Flyway Film Festival, International Family Film Festival, and the WorldFest-Houston International Film Festival.
