The curtain rises on the Middle East’s youngest film festival

Oct 26, 2011

DOHA: Just a few days after the curtain fell on the Abu Dhabi Film Festival, the curtain rose on the Doha-Tribeca Film Festival Tuesday evening with a gala world premier of “Black Gold,” the new feature of French auteur Jean-Jacques Annaud.

Opening the third edition of DTFF with this film was a big deal. Made by a director of Annaud’s stature, and starring a range of talent that includes Antonio Banderas, Tahar Rahim, Mark Strong and Freida Pinto, the film is also the first feature film outing of the Doha Film Institute (the festival’s parent organization), in co-production with Quinta Communications, the company of Tunisian producer Tarek Ben Ammar.
