With the occasion of the 2011 Cannes Film Festival, Doha Film Institute made its mark with organizing, one of the major events during the festival, the after party for the ‘‘Where Do We Go Now’‘ movie by Lebanese Director and Actress Nadine Labaki. The event was attended by many celebrities including: designer Stephane Rolland, H.E. Sheikh Jabor Bin Yousuf Al Thani, composer Khaled Mouzanar etc. After the 2007 hit Caramel, Labaki returns with another movie she’s directing. Set in a religiously mixed village, the movie is about a group of people trying to preserve their town in the midst of inter-religious tension. The town’s location is never mentioned, probably wanting to make the movie apply to anywhere in the Middle East where you have diversity. Doha Film Institute set up its own pavillion at Cannes and hosted the event which marked Egypt as the first ever guest country honoured at Cannes Film Festival. A series of Egyptian art movies was screened by Doha Film Institute at the Cannes Classics section.
