Synopsis

Nationality, Religion, Social class. None of these matters on the football pitch. For young boys, it’s all about the daily struggle in order to achieve their dreams.

‘Mata Mata’ is a coming-of-age documentary film that chronicles the ups and downs in the lives of several talented young Brazilian players in their pursuit of success. From selling brooms on the streets, at the age of 17 introverted Danilo comes to sign a contract with Cristiano Ronaldo’s agent, and is sold to a European club. Upon turning 18, Carlinhos heads to top German club Bayer 04 Leverkusen, but is soon faced with other challenges as culture shock, homesickness and loneliness kick in. Through hard work, determination and persistence, Bayern Munich defender Dante reaches the peak of his football career in Europe.
