Synopsis
Sara, a female corporate employee, struggles with her arduous job and nagging mother. She is stuck in a whirlwind of never-ending demands, where all she wants is to be left alone. One night, after a hectic shift, Sara is bitten and turned into a vampire. At first, she struggles to understand what is happening to her, but slowly, she embraces these new changes. Sara decides to leave her home after establishing boundaries with her mom and gets revenge on her evil boss by biting her. She joins the vampire who created her only to discover that he is as toxic and demanding as the rest of her surroundings. Sara then chooses to do what is best for her for the first time in her life, reclaiming her autonomy and freedom.
About the Director
Kummam Al-Maadeed is a Qatari writer specialising in English-langued fantasy novels. Kummam has published three novels and one collection of short stories. After years of literary work, Kummam ventured into the film industry with her first script writing experience with ‘Al-Aqiq’, a Doha Film Institute-granted animation short directed by Qatari animator Mohammed Al-Suwaidi. ‘Becoming a Vampire’ is her first live-action script and directorial debut. Both projects have been developed in the Doha Film Institute’s Short Script Lab.
Abeer Al-Kubaisi is a graphic designer and visual artist based in Doha, Qatar. Abeer has been experimenting with iPhone photography, digital art, and, more recently, acrylic paint. As she is fascinated by the human experience and interaction with the world, she draws inspiration from everything around her at any given time. Abeer participated in multiple local exhibitions. ‘Becoming a Vampire’ is her directorial debut.
