DFI Supports UN Climate Change Conference 2012

Dec 06, 2012

Delegates from around the world have gathered in Doha to discuss the steps needed to mitigate climate change and set achievable targets for emissions reductions. To raise the visibility of this endeavour DFI introduced a unique screening series that showcase films that explore environmental issues facing the global community. The screenings were hosted on the Katara esplanade and offered local and international audiences the chance to experience the wonders of the world while learning how to cultivate a more sustainable lifestyle. Titles included ‘Rafea: Solar Mama’, ‘Olafur Eliasson: Space is Process’, ‘The Tsunami and the Cherry Blossom’, ‘The Island President’, ‘Home’ , ‘Winged Migration’, and offered a wide spectrum of viewing experiences. DFI’s Green Screen presented by COP18/CMP8, saw an impressive turnout of film enthusiasts and environmental advocates who are interested in effecting change on a local, regional and international scale.

In addition to the screening series, DFI’s production team is in full swing documenting every moment of the influential conference. There are now 195 parties taking part in the climate change negotiations and sharing perspectives that will be included in the DFI documentary; a film which is exploring the scope and influence of the conference. Film is one of the most compelling storytelling mediums and COP18 offers a host of unique opportunities to capture history in the making. The breadth of the short documentary will cover the preparations and gatherings held during this iconic event that has garnered the world’s attention. DFI’s production team will also follow the outcome of this twenty-day gathering, which is composed of some of the international community’s greatest minds and decision makers.

The production team is also creating video press releases that raise the visibility of local intiatives. Many of the featured stories, which would have otherwise not received attention from local and regional media, are now gaining exposure through various channels. By capturing these snapshots of local innovations it elevates Qatar’s advocacy and pursuit to become more environmentally friendly. DFI’s production team is also creating daily online videos that act as a form of community outreach, developed with the hopes of engaging and inspiring the next generation of environmentalists.
