After a month-long break from new releases, Qatar’s distributors are filling screens with blockbusters again this weekend.
Here’s a look at a selection of films now playing in Doha:

Ted
No joke is off limits for Ted, a 30-something Bostonian cuddly bear and his best friend John (Mark Wahlberg). Written, produced, directed and starring 38 year old Seth MacFarlane (creator or “Family Guy”) as the titular character’s voice, “Ted” is his first film. It’s raucous, oozes with eighties nostalgia and, although the plot revolves around a talking teddy, it’s unsuitable for children.

The Dark Knight Rises
There are still plenty of showings of Christopher Nolan’s finale for fans who patiently and longingly waited 27 days to catch up with the rest of the world’s Batman followers. Sales records have been broken, and judging by the ticket-booth queues forming over the past few days, it’s best to book a seat in advance.

Brave
Set in the Highlands of Scotland, Pixar’s 13th film is the studio’s first with a female protagonist; raven-haired Merida (voiced by raven-haired Glaswegian Kelly MacDonald). Children will enjoy the bow-shooting heroine’s journey; going by the box-office statistics, the animated comedy hits the bull’s-eye.

Ek Tha Tiger
Starring former off-screen couple Salman Khan and Katrina Kaif, “Ek Tha Tiger” or ‘There once was a Tiger’ is an action-filled thriller (with obligatory romance). Reportedly released across an astonishing 3,300 screens in India, director Kabir Khan’s picture has pulverised box offices; opening figures suggest the film could overtake Bollywood record-breakers “3 Idiots” and “Dabangg”.

The Expendables 2
You get at least 10 adrenaline-fuelled action heroes for the price of one with this year’s latest ensemble film, including bodybuilder/actor/politician Arnold Schwarzenegger. Directed by Simon West (Con Air, The General’s Daughter) and shot in Bulgaria, Hong-Kong and New Orleans, “The Expendables 2” should be suitably downed with popcorn and soda.
