Hussen Ibraheem / Short Narrative / Lebanon, France, Qatar / 14 min / Original Language: Arabic / Interests: Coming of age, Drama

On a calm and sunny day, Firas, an 11-year-old boy, accompanies his father, Tayseer, and his father’s friend, Rayan, on a bird-hunting trip in the Lebanese mountains. What was supposed to be a joyful hunting trip turns into a tragedy when Firas brings back an injured bird. Tayseer finds an opportunity to toughen up his son by handing him a knife to slaughter the bird. Firas refuses to obey, defying his father’s oppressing logic of the concept of manhood.
