‘A River’s Tale’ tells the story of Salma and her returning daughter Thuraya in their attempt to preserve, maintain and reconstruct their lives with and against each other. Salma survived many years by protecting her independence, and she reached her peace by letting go of any attachments. But the past does not let go of Salma and brings back Thuraya—defeated, divorced, and pregnant.

About the Director

Bassem Breche is an award-winning scriptwriter and director. He has directed three short films, 'Both' (2007), 'Ziu' (2013) and 'Free Range' (2014). As a scriptwriter, Breche has written various web series and films including 'Shankaboot' (International Digital Emmy Award, 2011), 'Fasateen' (2012), 'The Little Drop' (2015), 'Undocumented' (2017) and 'Aleph' (2017). Breche is the founder/director of Scenario Beirut, a collective of screenwriters based in Beirut. Currently, Breche is working on his debut feature film ‘A River's Tale’.

Production Company Profile

The Attic is a growing boutique film production house with an innovatory sparkle that intends to bring to light films by emerging talented directors. Based in Beirut, The Attic was founded in 2009. It aims to participate vigorously in the present and future of cinema in the Middle East by focusing on fine and exceptional content without compromise. The Attic produced Elie Kamal’s short films ‘21⁄2’ (2010), which was screened at numerous film festivals and received a FIPRESCI award at the Dubai International Film Festival in 2010, ‘Talej’ (2012), ‘Revoltango’ (2014), ‘Beirut Terminus’ (2018) along with a series of corporate projects.
