Synopsis
Adam Mejri, a man determined not to follow in the criminal footsteps of his father, Ismael, a notorious figure in the criminal world, leads a monotonous life as an aimless insurance agent. However, everything changes when his father is released from prison and re-enters his life, forcing Adam to confront his past demons. To help his father pay off his heavy gambling debts, Adam embarks on what is known in Tunisia as “The scam of the century”. Using his finance skills and playing on the trust of investors, Adam quickly becomes one of Tunisia’s most successful financial con artists.
But as his wealth and popularity grow, his thirst for power and grandeur becomes uncontrollable. The repercussions of his criminal actions ripple throughout the country, and Adam finds himself on the run, hunted by the authorities and hated by the public. With the authorities on his tail and his fortune rapidly declining, Adam finds himself trapped in a world of financial manipulation, betrayal, and imminent danger. He must face his mistakes and find a way to make amends before his past catches up with him for good
About the Director
Mehdi Hmili is a Tunisian director, screenwriter and producer. He received his film education in Paris, where he directed several acclaimed films exploring themes of love and exile, including ‘X-Moment’, ‘Li-La’, and ‘The Night of Badr’. In 2019, Mehdi participated in La Fabrique Cinéma du Monde at the Cannes Film Festival with the feature documentary ‘Fouledh’. The film received a series of development awards, such as the El Gouna Film Festival award. His second feature film ‘Streams’ which he directed and co-produced, was officially selected for its world premiere at the 74th Locarno Film Festival. The film was met with critical acclaim and numerous awards, including Best Director at the Malmö Arab Film Festival and Best Actress at the Cairo International Film Festival. Its theatrical release in Tunisia, Luxembourg, and France, followed by its acquisition by Netflix. As a prominent figure in the new wave of Tunisian producers and directors, Hmili has significantly influenced the cinematic landscape of his country. His experience as an alumnus of the prestigious ‘Torino Film Lab’ and as the showrunner of the true-story-based series ‘All About Adam’ underscores his commitment to pushing the boundaries of narrative storytelling.
