Synopsis

‘Behind Closed Doors’ is a portrait of a farming family living in the most marginalized region of Morocco, the Rif Mountains, where livelihood comes exclusively from growing cannabis. The film explores the inherent taboo weighing on them and their children, who mirror the parent’s work with their games.

About the Director

Yakout Elhababi graduated from the ESAV Marrakech film school in 2010, and INSAS Brussels in 2013, where she studied editing. She has worked on several Moroccan narrative and documentary productions, and also works as a freelance editor. Yakout is currently developing ‘Behind the Doors’, her first feature-length documentary, set in her home region of northern Morocco.
