‘Directors’ Fortnight’ is a selection of films that runs in parallel to the ‘Festival de Cannes’. It was created in the wake of the May ’68 revolution, when France was brought to its knees by two weeks of country wide strikes. At the time, the filmmakers of Cannes showed solidarity with the striking workers
by refusing to show their films. This is how ‘Directors’ Fortnight’ was born. This year’s ‘Directors’ Fortnight’ has four films of Middle Eastern interest. We spoke to Artistic Director Edouard Waintrop about its history, its selection and its future.
