About the Director

Robin Hessman
Born in Boston, Massachusetts, Hessman graduated from Brown University with Russian and film degrees, and earned her graduate degree in directing from the All-Russian State Institute of Cinematography in Moscow. She shared a student Academy Award in 1994 for a short documentary film, "Portrait of Boy with Dog." "My Perestroika" is her feature debut.

“This is a movie about good folks in the good old days. In making the film, I took my staff and crew on a journey back to the times of my childhood.” - YAMAZAKI Takashi, Director

Born June 12, 1964, when he saw ‘Star Wars’ and ‘Close Encounters of the Third Kind’ at the age of thirteen, he decided to work in special effects. After graduating from Asagaya College of Art and Design, he joined SHIROGUMI where he developed highly-skilled visual techniques, working on films such as Itami Juzo’s ‘The Last Dance’ (aka Daibyonin, 1993) and ‘A Quiet Life’ (aka Shizukana Seikatsu, 1995) creating digital compositions and images for promotional events. In 2000, he made his directorial debut with ‘Juvenile’, which set a new standard of integration of full visual effects in entertainment. The film received high acclaim, winning the prize for Best Children's Film at the Giffoni International Film Festival in Italy, and the Best Visual Effects at the domestic Nifty Film Awards in 2000. His next film, ‘Returner’, was a huge box office hit in Japan. Aside from its domestic success, the film was invited for the Open Cinema category at the 7th Pusan International Film Festival, as well as being commercially released in Hong Kong, Singapore, Malaysia and North America. His career is not only limited to feature films. In 2004 he directed the opening movie sequences for the video game ‘Onimusha 3’, which went on to win 4 awards in several CG competitions around the world. Yamazaki Takashi is currently Japan's most remarkable visual artist working to create pure entertainment
